On a bright and crisp autumn afternoon, The Peninsula Suite at The Sandbanks Hotel in Poole, a mere golf drive away from the family home in Lilliput, was the setting for the Celebration of the Life Of Dave Lanning, an event hosted by his children Alyson, Russell and Phillip. A truly legendary and highly respected figure in the realms of journalism and television, Dave's love of speedway and darts saw the ' Big Man' become the instantly recognisable voice of these sports with his full throttle delivery hitting the target every time. Family, friends, colleagues and sporting personalities joined together to enjoy the warm and humorous tributes bestowed on a man whose life was never dull, ever loquacious and always deeply supportive of the family unit. We were present at The End of Era Banquet witnessed by many former World Champions. Visit the Twin Towers to soak up the atmosphere for the last time. Fundin, Mauger, Briggs, Moore, Olsen, Lee, Collins, Ermolenko, Jonsson and Hancock were all there as was Dave Lanning to bring alive the memories of the old lady.
